The program was created at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Its very first applications were related to the analysis of the stress state of structures subjected to shock loading. LS-DYNA currently implements effective methods for solving these problems, including explicit and implicit integration methods, multicomponent hydrodynamics (Mulimaterial Eulerian Hydrodynamics), computational hydrodynamics of incompressible flows, meshless method of smoothed particles (SPH – Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), meshless method based on the Galerkin method (EFG – Element Free Galerkin method). LS-DYNA has built-in procedures for automatic rebuilding and smoothing of the finite element mesh during element degeneration – arbitrary Lagrangian-Euleran grids (Arbitrary Lagrangian-Euleran), highly efficient algorithms for solving contact problems, a wide range of material models, user programming options, as well as Lagrangian Eulerian binding and calculation of multicomponent flows of compressible media on moving Eulerian networks.
