Description of ELEK Cable High Voltage 7.0
ELEK Cable High Voltage 7.0 is a specialized engineering program for calculating the permissible current load and heating of power cables, primarily medium- and high-voltage cables. It is used for designing cable lines from LV to HV/HVAC/HVDC.
The program’s main objective is to answer the question: what current can a specific cable carry, either temporarily or continuously, under specific installation conditions, without the core temperature exceeding the permissible limit?
For example, you can set:
cable 110/132/220/330 kV;
cross-section of the core;
core material – Cu/Al;
XLPE or other insulation;
screen and shell design;
ambient temperature;
thermal resistance of soil;
depth of foundation;
distance between cables;
phase arrangement;
method of grounding screens;
number of chains;
presence of pipes/channels;
thermal backfill, etc.
And get the permissible current, losses and temperatures.
Steady-state calculations are based primarily on IEC 60287, while for transient/cyclic modes, the IEC 60853 methodology is used. The Neher–McGrath and FEM methods are also implemented.
That is, the program solves the problem: electrical losses -> heat generation -> heat transfer through the cable structure -> heat transfer to the environment -> core temperature.
