Description: SubD is a parametric subdivision extension for sketches optimized for ATV-based workflows. Thomas Thomassen, developer of Vertex Tools, has just released his latest creation, SketchUp Routines. This new tool heralds a new direction in topological modeling and organic shapes in SketchUp. He uses the four foot convention to figure out the best way to model shapes in SketchUp.
The 3D Networks division uses an algorithm to create smooth shapes from rigid geometry. This was already possible using Craft for SketchUp, but Thomas is overwhelmed by this smoothing, exposing new tools and features. Mesh smoothing is handled so that you can go through the different subdivision levels adding more or less geometry. Since Subd also adheres to the 4-pad convention, this means that the textures, if the UV-map is not distorted or messy, as it is subdivided.
