Description: I-Deas NX is a top-level design or CAD system. Design systems organically integrate design and analysis processes into a single complex. When using them, there are no difficulties in creating a complex and mathematically accurate model of a product, since only these systems have the most powerful tools for geometric modeling.
The organization of the exchange between the subsystems of design (CAD), analysis (CAE) and technological preparation of production (CAM) is practically invisible to the user, since the subsystems operate with one database or have internal data formats. The composition of various types of analysis is limited in comparison with the composition of universal programs and is mainly intended for solving problems such as structural analysis, linear static analysis, modal analysis (calculation of natural frequencies, kinematic parameters of motion), thermal analysis, steady state analysis (linear convection, linear stability), etc.
Engineering analysis using a design system is usually based on a finite element or finite difference method and consists of the following main steps:
• initial (preprocessor) preparation;
• calculation, obtaining results (processing stage);

The I-Deas NX system – top-level CAD, like Unigraphics NX, is an integrated computer-aided design system and includes CAD, CAM, CAE components.

• Drafting – formation of drawings based on the data of three-dimensional models.
Three-dimensional models of structures developed in the Design application are used further in the CAE component of I-Deas NX. CAE component – the Simulation application is designed to carry out calculations for strength, shock and vibration resistance, acoustic effects, durability, exposure to thermal conditions, optimization of structures, etc.
The CAE part of the I-DEAS NX system includes the following components:
• I-Deas NX MasterFEM (modules of the Simulation application with their own solver);
• I-Deas NX with NX Nastran solver – full-featured package for preparation, execution and presentation of calculation results.
