MSC CAEfatigue 2024.1 is a random response and vibration fatigue solver for the frequency domain plus a fatigue solver for the time domain. It works with mixed random and deterministic loadings or standard time domain-based loadings to provide fatigue life and damage predictions, as well as several forms of response statistics. It is exceptionally fast, easy-to-use and capable of handling very large models.
The software also offers tools for loads management including digital signal processing, as well as a Robust Design feature that allow users to analyze the robustness of their FEA models to variations in FEA solution parameters.
Advanced analysis algorithms for random exposure
For many systems of the automotive and aerospace industries, it is required to perform the load calculation, as well as to exclude the possibility of collision of individual components in conditions of strong vibration caused by shaking during operation. The results of calculations using the ADvanced Random Analysis algorithm perfectly complement the tasks of predicting the reaction of the design in conditions of complex loading, which occurs in many engineering tasks in a variety of industries.
Calculation of surrogate loads
When analyzing the strength, it is very important to determine the characteristics of the current loads. Ideally, all loads used in the analysis or laboratory tests should correspond as accurately as possible to the values achieved during the operation of the product. In practice, the closest scenario that can be implemented is to measure several events and input loads (taking into account their correlation) on prototypes of vehicles tested at the landfills and their reproduction in a laboratory or analytical environment. From the point of view of analysis, this is the most feasible and widely used method, but using it, the problem of acceleration of tests arises acutely. When modeling in the laboratory, especially when modeling individual parts or units, it is necessary to simplify the load, usually due to the availability of test equipment, reducing them to a single input load applied cyclically (for example, on the X axis, then Y, and then Z), which creates significant difficulties. Two common approaches are currently being used. The first involves the application to the loads of the coverage procedure, according to which several loads are combined into one smoothed profile. With the classical application of this procedure, knowledge of the structure of the system is not required, so it does not give confidence that the resulting benefits will give the same values or the same distribution of damage. The second approach is to use the concept of the spectrum of fatigue damage (FDS), according to which a simplified load is created, causing similar damage to a hypothetical system with one degree of freedom, in which the resonance is caused by the applied load. Again, in this approach, the real structure of the system or systems is not taken into account. The surrogate load method implements a new approach, which is a type of FDS method, but at the same time using the properties of a real system. The Surrogate Loading tool allows you to convert a complex multi-channel load that has several events in time into a simplified “surrogate load”, which gives the results of calculations of loads and damages that are close to the results of a complex load, taking into account chronology.
Calculation of welds in the frequency and temporal areas
The CAEfatigue system, the first in industry, provides the ability to perform a full analysis of spot welding, standard and special welds, in the Frequency Domain region together with more traditional methods used in the time domain (Time Domain).
